Pilates with Nadine

What is Pilates?

Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. Born in Mönchengladbach, Germany in 1883, he suffered as a child from Asthma, rickets and rheumatic fever. Pilates believed that the health of a person could be strongly influenced by their posture, lifestyle and breathing. To overcome his own deficits he started to train his physical strength at very young age. In 1912 he moved to England and was incarcerated by British authorities in two different internment camps during World War I. Here, he started to train his fellow inmates with a range of exercise he had developed to strengthen the human body and mind. His concept was named  "Contrology". This method and his work was heavily influenced by a variety of sports such as Yoga, gymnastics bodybuilding, Kung Fu and skiing. The exercise of Pilates gained more recognition in early 1960's.

The ideology of the Pilates method includes :

  • Holistic health

  • Holistic use of your body

  • Breathing

From these concepts the following movement principles were developed:

Concentration, Control, Centre, Flow, Precision, Breathing.

Using the above concepts during the workout, the Pilates method strives for postural alignment, a strong core or so called 'Powerhouse', flexibility, endurance and a good breathing pattern.

What makes Studio Realign's Pilates training with Nadine special?

Being a Physiotherapist with work experience in the field of Pilates and Physiotherapy opens a lot of possibilities for my workas a Pilates trainer.

I was educated by Polestar who refined the Pilates method according to latest research. The traditional exercises were
developed further or changed to offer the best possible movement education.

The focus in my Pilates classes is based on the accurate alignment of my clients body during the exercises. I make sure the correct positioning in every exercise is achieved. This way I can assure that the adequate stabilizing muscles which support our body can be addressed. Therefore I guide my clients and if needed, correct them to realign their body during the class.

The exercises can be modified for every level or tailored to an individual's specific needs, depending on health constitution and personal goals. My profession as a Physiotherapist and education through Polestar help to find a solution for almost every challenge.

Pilates can be performed alone or in a group, on a mat or on the apparatus depending on personal preference.

Yoga with Floor

Hey there, I am Floor and I've been hooked on yoga for 15 whole years now! When the pandemic hit, yoga was my rock, helping me navigate through those tough times. So, in 2020, I decided to take my passion to the next level and got myself trained as a yoga teacher at the Movements in Amsterdam.

Yoga Eindhoven

Yoga has been a game-changer for me. It's not just about the poses; it's about appreciating and connecting with my body. Dealing with chronic pain and anxiety became more manageable, thanks to this practicing a few times a week.

I truly believe that everyone's got a yogabody,  and I try my best to spread this message in my classes. It's not about being perfect or super flexible; it's about embracing your own uniqueness and journey.

In my sessions, I like to mix things up. We will start with a few sun salutations to get the blood pumping and then move to hatha poses: a set sequence of poses which we will hold for around 5 breaths, we will end the class with some relaxation, stillness and introspection. It's vital to take time for yourself and check in with what you need on that day, both on and off the mat.

So, whether you're a seasoned yogi or a total newbie, come join me for a fun and energizing time on the mat. Get ready to move, breathe, and discover the incredible power of yoga by moving with your breath. See you in class!
